2011 Oregon Trail Rodeo Queen   Emily Taylor

Emily_TaylorHey everyone! I am Emily Taylor and on September 4th, 2011 I was crowned the 2011 Miss Oregon Trail PRCA Rodeo Queen. Throughout the next year I will proudly represent this outstanding rodeo at a variety of events throughout the great state of Nebraska, and a few neighboring states as well.

I am proud to call a small farming community in Northeast Nebraska, Battle Creek, home. Karen and Rick Arkfeld are my parents and I am the middle child out of five. I have two older sisters, Sarah and Kathrynn and two younger siblings, William and Rebecca. Growing up with hard working parents who make a living off the land and being around rodeo installed great values within me. I am lucky to know what hard work is, and that through God nothing is impossible.

My home away from home is Lincoln, Nebraska. I attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and am a junior, majoring in Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications with a teaching option. After I receive my Bachelors Degree I wish to pursue my Masters Degree. I am anxious to begin teaching Agricultural Education and becoming an FFA Advisor as well because this is something that I too am very passionate about.

When not attending class, I am usually very busy with the University's Equestrian Teams. This will be my second year on the Western team, and my first year on the English team. I love being involved with all disciplines of riding as it makes me a well rounded rider, and person. My team elected me to be the 2011-2012 Public Relations and Website Officer. Outside of the team, I enjoy baking, working out, and working on a variety of craft projects. Spending time with family and friends is very important to me. It is always nice to get out of Lincoln and head back home for some down time, delicious homemade meals, quality family time, and to work with my horses.

I would like to send out an invitation to the 21st Annual Oregon Trail PRCA Rodeo that is held every year over Labor Day Weekend in Hastings, Nebraska. It truly is a great place to bring the whole family and enjoy America's true original sport, Rodeo. The three day weekend is jam packed with rodeo action every night, and also a parade held in downtown Hastings. There are a few events that your own little buckaroos participate in as well. Nothing is greater than a weekend full of family time watching the toughest cowboys ride the rank stock of Korkow Rodeos and the quickest cowgirls all riding to win the champion buckles.

2010 Oregon Trail Rodeo Queen  Kristin Kohmetscher

kristin_kohmetscherHello everyone! I am Kristin Kohmetscher and last September I was awarded the honor of being the 2010 Miss Oregon Trail Rodeo Queen. With-in the one day competition I received top honors in Horsemanship, Speech, Personality, and Appearance. Now I have days filled with representing this great rodeo that will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year!

I have a loving and supportive family that resides outside of Lawrence, Nebraska. I am the 18 year-old daughter of Duane and Laurie Kohmetscher and I have two younger siblings, Shane and Halee. I love living on the farm, and have learned many qualities that have made me the person I am today. Hard-work, responsibility, priorities, faith, and love are just a few that people can learn from being involved with country life as well as rodeo.

In the fall of 2009 I began my freshman year as a Biology major with Pre-Veterinary Science as a program of study at the University of Nebraska Kearney. After the four years required to receive a degree in Pre-Veterinary Science I will apply to veterinary school to become a Large Animal and/or an Equine Veterinarian. I am a member of the Honors program while at UNK and I look forward to working with some of the veterinarians in the area during my second semester.

When I have time off from my studies I like to go play basketball or work out. I also enjoy a good book, drawing, painting, and hanging out with all the great people on campus. Once in a while I make a trip home to enjoy a home cooked meal and some family time. The farm and my horses is something I can't be away from for too long.

I would like to personally invite you to come and celebrate 20 great years of PRCA rodeo in Hastings. This Labor Day weekend bring the whole family out for a night filled with the nation's toughest cowboys, fastest cowgirls, best stock, and watch the beautiful Nebraska sunset over the arena each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night!
